Some days I feel like I’m inside a pinball machine. I’m bouncing all over the place, ricocheting off the sides, gaining speed and going nowhere.
I need to stop, focus and finish SOMETHING. The physical piles on my desk and the digital ones in my computer keep growing. I want to calm the crazy, but how???
Well, today I’m trying something new. I bought a timer that is really cute – it’s shaped like an ice-cream cone – and I’ve started setting it for breaks. That’s right, BREAKS! A real time out during my day. At first I thought: “I don’t have time for this,” but as I tested it I found that taking a short break really was refreshing.
To take it one step further, I’ve decided to say three accomplishments out loud before I start my next challenge. It might be something like:
- I just finished writing and posting my blog
- I let my family/friend know that I’m proud of them
- I just started reading that new book
It could be anything. Basically, it shifts your mind from thinking of everything you have to do to all the great things you’ve already accomplished. It truly is invigorating.
So stop thinking about your job, your credit score, your waistline, your retirement savings… Take some time for yourself, even if it’s only five minutes and Calm Your Crazy. Have fun with it.
