Celebrate – Anything


Yesterday was my birthday, and I took the entire day off just to celebrate and do all the things that I love.

When was the last time you celebrated something – for yourself! Of course, we take the time to celebrate birthdays for our kids, and anniversaries for our parents, but when was the last time you really said “whoo-hoo†to yourself.

I’ve heard so many people say: “Oh, I’m too old for that†or “I just don’t celebrate birthdays anymore†and I think:

How sad!

How sad it must be to give up on celebrating your life – on celebrating being alive.

I have to tell you that the very best part of my birthday was all the good wishes I got from my friends and family. All the cards and phone calls really made my day, knowing that they took time out of their busyiness to just stop and say “Happy Birthday – I’m thinking of youâ€.

That warm feeling and that smile on my face, is exactly what I will return to them when it’s their turn to celebrate, whatever it may be. And there’s no excuse for forgetting anymore, thanks to Google calendar and all the other gadgets out there that help us remember everything that is important.

So go ahead, put your own birthday on that Google calendar and remind yourself that this is your day to celebrate, in any way you want – in any way that will make you happy. Take a moment and just yell:

Whoo-hoo, I’m alive!

Do You Have a Favorite Quote?


Do you have a favorite quote? One that really struck a chord with you the very first time you heard it because it connected with your own life – with your own experiences. You repeated it to yourself over and over again because it made you feel stronger, more confident, and just plain happier! Mine is:

When I was going through a challenging time in my life, I posted this quote all over my house –on my mirrors, my dresser, my refrigerator, and even the steering wheel in my car. Every time I saw it, it would make me feel more confident – happier.

Quotes are personal. What works for someone else may not work for you. They can be inspirational, encouraging, hopeful, and some are just plain funny.

60 Seconds of Peacefulness


My schedule is CRAZY! I have no time!! How will I ever get everything done!!!

STOP!

TAKE A BREATH!

Now for just one minute – only 60 seconds – look around and see the beauty that surrounds you. It could be those lovely flowers you pass every day and never notice them. Today, for one minute, look at them – see their color, smell their fragrance, and enjoy!

I happen to love sunsets. Whenever I can, I stop my car, get out, and just stand there for a short time and feel myself surrounded by its beauty. It brings me a peaceful feeling and helps me to realize that there is more to life than meetings and emails and more meetings. I’m sure you’ve heard this before: at the end of life, no one says they wished they had spent more time at the office. So think about it, what will you wish you had spent more time doing?

This is the time to put that “something†on your calendar, even if it seems silly – like looking at the stars in the sky before you go to bed at night. Allow yourself the luxury of peacefulness, even if it’s only for one minute.

Overcoming the NO’s in Your Life


How many times have you heard the word NO:

No, I don’t need your service

No, you don’t qualify for that loan

No, I just don’t have time to meet with you

After awhile, all those NO’s begin to beat you down, and that’s when some of the most damaging NO’s of all begin to surface – the NO’s you tell yourself:

No, I don’t have enough experience

No, I’m not smart enough

No, I’m just not good enough

They cause you to set limits on your own possibilities, on your own dreams, and on your own expectations of all you can accomplish.

So how do you shut off all those “NO’s� Well, think of it this way. Picture yourself going up an escalator. If you hold on tight to the railing and don’t let go, you can’t advance to the next level. The harder you hold on, the worse it is. You can even fall backwards and never move forward.

That railing is all the “NO’s†you hear throughout the day. Let go of them, get off at the next level, and be ready to experience the best you can be at this very moment.

Say Good-bye to Summer


In just five days we are officially saying good-bye to the summer of 2015. Yes, it’s Labor Day week-end already – where does the time fly?

Every day I am conscience of how very precious time is. Maybe it’s because I’ve lost a father, a mother, and a sibling. I’ve learned the hard and valuable lesson that every single minute counts.   I try to make the most of every day – every season.

So, do you have any new, exciting, loving memories from this past summer? Memories that will make you smile every time you think of them – every time you see that photo. If not, you still have some time left. You have one full week-end to pack it all in. Summer 2015 isn’t over yet. How will you spend it – with your friends, your family, your-self?

In case you are looking for something fun, check out the Thirsty Moose in Poynette, WI. I ran across this place totally by accident and what a hoot! There was live music, dancing, sand pits, and sunshine. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Who knows, maybe I’ll visit again to celebrate the end of summer. And maybe I’ll see you there.

The important thing is to enjoy your time, however you choose to spend it.
